There was a fire in Montague Gardens in the early morning hours. The City’s firefighters were called out to business premises shortly after 3 a.m.

Various crews responded, with 11 fire engines, 6 water tankers and an aerial appliance deployed to assist. The blaze was contained at 8.30 am. A plume of white smoke could be seen hanging over Montague Gardens, early this morning.

The cause of the fire is unknown

 

 

The spokesperson for the City’s Fire and Rescue Service, Jermaine Carelse, says no one was injured. He says the cause of the fire is not known at this stage. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire.

High temperatures also increase the risk of veld or bush fires.

The City advises that resident take the following precautions:

• Don’t make fires in the open or leave fires unattended
• Don’t throw cigarette butts out of cars or in the open veld
• Don’t throw bottles in the veld as they can magnify the sun’s rays and start fires
• In the case of a large fire, report it immediately and move away from the area to let the professionals deal with it.

Any emergency or distress call can be reported to the City’s Public Emergency Communication Centre by dialling 107 from a landline or 021 480 7700 from a cellphone.
