Bellville Police are investigating the motive behind a fatal shooting incident at a tavern in South Street and in Blankenberg Street, Bellville CBD on Friday night. Two people, one of which is a 40-year-old Chinese national and the other a teenager, were shot and killed by an unknown gunman who fired several shots at the tavern.

According to police reports, the 40-year-old Chinese national was the first victim. He allegedly arrived at the tavern and wanted to use the bathroom and was escorted by the bouncer to the toilet.

The bouncer then went inside the bathroom to switch the light on, when he heard several gunshots outside the bathroom. According to police captain F.C Van Wyk, the bouncer immediately came out to check what was going on and he saw that the Chinese national was shot and was already on the floor bleeding.

“He then ran after the suspect who shot the victim and also shouted for help. The 18-year-old chased after the suspect and the suspect took out a firearm and also shot him.”

Both victims were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The unknown suspect fled the scene and is yet to be arrested. Bellville police have registered two counts of murder.
