A Cape Town BMW driver – who was caught verbally abusing a petrol attendant in Rondebosch – has issued a formal apology. The driver, Renzo Torrente, visited the Shell Garage in Rondebosch recently. At the time, a petrol pump attendant was busy clamping his wheel for illegal parking when Torrente lashed out at the worker by swearing and telling the man to get a “proper” job. Someone caught the interaction on video and posted it on social media.

The clip has since gone viral. Torrente has now issued a statement where he denies claims that he is racist. He added that he will not be repeating his actions, and that he had attempted to visit the fuel station but was shown away. However, his apology has fallen on deaf ears by many who say that he is merely backpedaling to save his reputation.

Last week, BMW Car Club Cape Town issued its own statement on social media platforms. BMWCCCT stated that the behaviour displayed does not reflect the organisation’s values.
