The Mother City put her best foot forward and rolled out her lush green carpet this week for a star-studded Earthshot Week, with a visibly relaxed Prince William taking in all the sights on offer.
Prince William charmed everyone he met, and in turn, was also charmed by the genuine, down-to-earth and laidback hospitality South Africans are known for.
The Prince took in some of Cape Town’s beautiful scenery, including Signal Hill, Kirstenbosch Gardens and Kalk Bay, with curated Earthshot Week events peppered across the peninsula.

With the international press following him around, photos and videos of Cape Town will hopefully inspire more people to visit our shores!
On the last day of his visit, Prince William stopped in at the NSRI’s Simon’s Town base, before arriving on an NSRI vessel in Kalk Bay Harbour, where he engaged with local fishers, who are on a journey to sustainable fishing with the help of 2023 Earthshot finalist Abalobi App.

Swopping the red carpet for a fish braai in Kalk Bay, the Prince enjoyed some locally sourced fish with America’s Got Talent superstar Heidi Klum, actor Billy Porter and model Winnie Harlow.
It’s not something you see every day; a future King sitting near Kalky’s for a braai with celebrities!
The fish braai was prepared by renowned chef Kobus van der Merwe of the famed Wolfgat restaurant in Paternoster.
Before the Earthshot Prize Ceremony on Wednesday 6 November, Prince William took a hike with Steve Irwin’s son, Robert up Signal Hill. Robert was a co-host for the Earthshot ceremony.

He also met with Table Mountain National Park Rangers to discuss conservation efforts.

Prince William visited one of the jewels in Cape Town’s crown, Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden, meeting the finalists of the Earthshot Prize ahead of the awards ceremony.

During the prize-giving ceremony, Prince William encouraged society to champion climate innovation or support those who do. Five Winners were announced – and those from Africa, including Ghana and Kenya, who had won for their solutions to managing waste.
Prince William said he was delighted to host the fourth-annual ceremony in Africa, for the first time.
It was certainly a week to remember, and maybe next time he can bring the whole family for a laid-back Cape Town vacation!
