The largest luxury passenger ship to dock in Cape Town yet arrived here a couple of days ago. This signalled the start of the Cruise Liner Season.

The Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, James Vos says history was made recently with the Anthem of the Seas docking here.

Vos added, “Every visit pumps R100 million into our local economy – that’s jobs, business opportunities, and growth for Cape Town!”

 

The luxury vessel is the fifth-largest cruise ship in the world. It’s the largest luxury passenger ship yet, to throw anchor in our harbour. It has already left our shores.

 

 

History was made this week

 

 

Vos says that 88 ships are set to make shore here this season. It’s another boost for the passengers on board these vessels as Cape Town was recently awarded the title of Africa’s Best Cruise Port.

Over 100,000 passengers will be on board these luxury ships. Their spending power means there’s a massive economic boost for the City.

 

How to view it

 

If you drive into the CBD past the Convention Centre and look to your right, you will see the cruise liners, that are docked here.

If you want a closer view, you can drive over to the Cruise Terminal, which is in the Maker’s Landing building.

 

 

You will first-hand see how the ship is unloaded and how new supplies are taken on board.

Vos says staff at the Cruise Cape Town Programme offices, work around the clock to build partnerships across the globe, to bring these spectacular cruise liners to our shores.
