The Transport Company announced that MyCiTi commuters can look forward to lower bus fares from the beginning of next month. Management says the lower fares are a result of the sustained decrease in diesel prices for 3 consecutive months.

The conclusion of the City’s annual budget process

The company says that fares are adjusted on the 1st of July, every year. This follows the conclusion of the City of Cape Town’s annual budget process. The budget process takes into account the latest cost projections for providing services for the year ahead.

South Africans have seen the price of diesel decreasing over the past few months. This means that the operating costs of providing the MyCiTi bus service have also decreased over the same period.

Urban Mobility-MMC, Councillor Rob Quintas says, as a result of this, the cost savings are transferred to MyCiTi commuters.

“The monthly pass remains great value for money by offering passengers unlimited travel on as many routes and as many times as they wish, not only to work but to explore the City on weekends and holidays,” Quintas added.

The City says the MyCiTi fares make provision for changes during the financial year based on significant changes to the cost of diesel.

At the same time, this protects the City from ongoing losses if the cost of diesel continues to increase significantly. Commuters are reminded again that Peak Fares apply to journeys starting on weekdays from 06:45 to 08:00.

The new myconnect card

In the afternoon it is from 16:15 to 17:30. Meanwhile, Off-Peak (Saver) fares apply to all other times. This includes all day on weekends and public holidays.

PLEASE NOTE: The new myconnect card will remain R40. Passengers won’t pay any more for penalties incurred when they don’t tap in and out correctly.
