Published on

Two suspects have been arrested for the murder of an elderly women in Kraaifontein, nearly a month ago.

The 64 year old Nophumela Makeleni was shot and killed in Wallacedene on 20 August, after two suspects approached her under the pretext of buying meat from her. They followed her into her shack and shot her in the head before fleeing.

A cash reward of R100 000 was then issued for information that would lead to the identified suspects’ arrests.

Yesterday, the police made their breakthrough. Following up on various leads and information, the investigating team descended on a property on a farm in Klapmuts, arresting the two fugitives.

The two alleged murderers, 29 year old Siyabonga Kholakele and 32 year old Yanele Mangweni, were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm, and will appear on murder and house robbery charges in the Blue Down’s Magistrate’s court.

Police have not ruled out the possibility that more charges could be added.

Western Cape provincial commissioner Thembisile Patekile praised the officers involved with the take-down of the suspects.
