The Elsies River Community Policing Forum has paid tribute to one of their members, who was shot dead on Sunday morning in a failed hijacking attempt.
The 49 year old Clinton Treu was shot dead in Clarkes Estate after he was involved in a struggle with hijackers.
Treu tried to resist his attackers and unfortunately succumbed to his injuries after being shot.
Treu, one of the CPF’s Community in Blue patrollers, was off duty at the time of the incident.
The CPF says Treu always campaigned for the safety of others, but became a statistic of the crimes he fought against.
Community in Blue Coordinator Joshua Jackson says Clinton was an integral member who was passionate about being part of the team, and always enthusiastic to go out on patrols.
CPF Chairperson Hamish Arries said that the entire CPF, NHW and Community Safety family has been left devastated by this loss.
We will not remember Clinton as a victim but as a hero who was prepared to stand his ground and paid with his life doing so.
Meanwhile, the Western Cape Provincial Community Police Board says Treu was a steadfast guardian of the Elsies River community, working tirelessly alongside others to keep the public safe from harm.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, colleagues, and the broader community who have lost a devoted father, husband, brother, and exceptional individual. His selfless commitment to ensuring the safety of others will not be forgotten.
The Board has urged the South African Police Service (SAPS) to initiate the 72-hour activation plan and exhaust all resources to bring the perpetrators to justice.
We demand a thorough investigation, leaving no stone unturned, to ensure that those responsible are held accountable for this heinous crime.
