No arrest yet after Rocklands teens killed in gang shooting

No arrests have been made yet following the fatal shooting in Rocklands, Mitchells Plain on Friday evening.

 

According to Mitchells Plain police, gunmen opened fire on a group of young people at a park situated on Bosduif Street. Two boys aged 15 and 17 were fatally shot and died on the scene. Four other victims, aged between 15 and 20 years old, were left wounded and transported to medical facilities with bullet wounds.

 

According to the police’s Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, the motive behind the attack is believed to be gang-related.

 

“Mitchells Plain SAPS opened two murder as well as four attempted murder charges for further investigation.”

 

Police have appealed to anyone with information to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111.

 

Meanwhile, Mitchell’s Plain Ward councillor Ashley Potts has expressed his condolences to the families and friends of the teens who were killed in the incident.

 

Potts has condemned the attack, adding that crime has become rampant in the area. The ward councillor has also called on the community to speak out and step forward with information that will help police find the suspects behind the senseless attack.

 

“There has never been a time more as such that we need to speak out and step forward to reclaim our streets. One life loss is a life too many.”

 

The ward councillor has further called on the Rocklands community to stand together to prevent similar incidents from ever happening again.

 

” – I need to accept that Rocklands, like many other areas across the Cape Flats, is not immune to the devastation we’ve just encountered.”
