The rail service says the break will not be for the entire long weekend and that operations will resume on Saturday. Metrorail spokesperson Zino Mihi explained the reasoning behind the decision:

“Metrorail in the Western Cape will not be operating trains on Friday, as it is a public holiday. We will be using the time for intensive maintenance that will start from Thursday. The maintenance includes the recommissioning and testing, resignalling at Bonteheuwel and between Kasselsvlei and Bellville stations,” clarified Mihi.
