Anti-Gang Unit detectives are investigating a double murder after two teenage brothers were shot and killed in Lavender Hill on Saturday morning.

The two boys, aged 14 and 17, were walking in St Bernard Street at about 06h30 when they came under fire from unknown suspects. Both victims suffered gunshots to their heads.

Angelo (14) and Antonio (17) Frankford’s father was reportedly also shot dead, six years ago.

The brother’s aunt, who said they were inseparable, told Netwerk24 they were not gang members, nor did they participate in gang activities.

Boys both had sadly started using drugs, and dropped out of school, according to their aunt.

Provincial Anti-Gang Unit members with support from Steenberg police and other policing contingents are following leads in search of the shooters.

Meanwhile, additional police officials have been deployed to the area to assist in the search for the suspects and to ensure the area is safe.

The MEC of Community Safety Anroux Marais has welcomed the additional boots on the ground.

Marais has called on community members to come forward if they have any information about the shooting.

”This violence must stop. I want to ask the whole community not to stand by and watch as the lives of two teens are snuffed out.”

Steenberg and Lavender Hill CPF chair Gavin Walbrugh says it is very worrying that victims as young as this have not escaped the violence.

”We are at a loss, because we don’t know what the reasons are for this sad incident. We are assured by the police that they are investigating a case of double murder, and also that they have deployed additional resources to the area.”

Walbrugh has extended his condolences to the family of the brothers, and the larger Lavender Hill community.
