The Bastille 2024 Celebrations have been postponed. The iconic event occurring annually in Franschhoek will now happen on the 20th and the 21st of July. The organizers say the recent inclement weather has led to the postponement.
Bastille 2024 Celebrations
Event organisers say the decision was taken following consultations with disaster and risk management authorities. With severe weather conditions lashing many parts of the province this week, the step was taken to postpone celebrations, to prioritise guest safety.
Warnings and anticipated disruptive rain
The CEO of Franschhoek Tourism, Ruth McCourt says the decision to postpone was not taken lightly.
She adds that it’s essential that the annual celebration lives up to the months of hard work that define it.
McCourt added, “With the wintry weather still in full force, don your wellington boots next weekend and let the fine wines fuel the usual merriment, despite the weather.”
She says it was made after careful consideration and consultation with structural engineers and their safety team.

Dress in blue, white or red
The new venue for the celebrations is the Franschhoek High School rugby fields. A marquee is the festival’s centrepiece. Attending people are encouraged to dress in blue, white, red, or any practical wintry attire. Organizers say the spirit of Bastille 2024 will remain undampened.
McCourt says attendees can enjoy wine tastings within the renowned Bastille marquee, indulge in local delicacies from food stalls, and experience a feast of live entertainment.
