The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the Cape metro has welcomed the arrest of a 19-year-old man who had allegedly beaten his grandmother to a pulp, in a video that has since gone viral.

The incident happened in Wallacedene, Kraaifontein last month. The suspect continued to beat his grandmother until she was unconscious, resulting in her hospitalization.

The red berets say they will ensure justice is served in this matter, as the party’s Cape Metro Regional Secretary Mzubanzi Dambuza explained:

“The EFF does not tolerate such behaviour of a young man ill-treating a senior citizen in that way. We can safely inform our people out there that he has been charged with common assault and domestic violence charges,” said Dambuza.

The suspect is expected to appear in court tomorrow.

“We, as the EFF, are asking the law to take its course, and we don’t want him anywhere close to that house or else we will chase him away ourselves,” concluded Dambuza
