New Western Cape Parliament cabinet announced

The new Western Cape Parliament candidates have been announced, with majority of the MECs remaining in the positions they previously held. There are, however, some shifts and new faces.

 

The list of the provincial departments and the MEC heading it up:

 

Premier: Alan Winde

 

Infrastructure Department (and Western Cape DA leader): Tertius Simmers

 

Police Oversight and Community Safety: Anroux Marais (formerly Cultural Affairs and Sport)

 

Health and Wellness: Mireille Wenger (formerly Finance and Economic Opportunities)

 

Finance: Deidre Baartman (new)

 

Education: David Maynier

 

Mobility: Isaac Sileku (new)

 

Agriculture, Economic Development and Tourism: Ivan Meyer

 

Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport: Ricardo Mackenzie (formerly Mobility)

 

Local Government, Environmental Affairs, and Development Planning: Anton Bredell

 

Social Development: Jaco Londt (new)

 

Premier Alan Winde congratulated the chosen members of the Western Cape parliament and says his cabinet will continue to be supported by more than 90 000 employees in the provincial government.

 

“We must be honest with ourselves: the next 5 years will come with formidable challenges, but I firmly believe that we are ready to weather whatever crisis comes our way. We must move forward with renewed vigour. We have achieved so much, but much more still needs to be done.”

 

The position of Speaker is held by Daylin Mitchell. While, Former Police Oversight and Community Safety MEC, Reagan Allen, is now in the position of Deputy Speaker.

 

The first gathering of the National Assembly will be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on Friday.
