As the cold weather sets in, StreetStore will be setting up another free pop-up clothing store for the homeless on Tuesday 11 June at The Haven Night Shelter in Green Point.
The pop-up store will be stationed at the Haven Night Shelter between 10am – 12pm offering homeless people the opportunity to be clothed with dignity – and at no cost.
For the Cape Town Street Store, organisers have issued a call to people to gather their family, friends, acquaintances and neighbours, to clean out their closets and donate their functional and pre-loved clothing, or to volunteer by signing up HERE.
StreetStore, the world’s first rent-free, premises-free, free pop-up clothing store for the homeless, was started by Mike Abel and his team from M&C Saatchi Abel, who came up with this amazing concept in 2014.
Since then, it has helped to clothe over 1 million people.
It has grown from a good idea into a global movement, with more than 1000 stores in hundreds of locations around the world.
What makes it especially special is that StreetStores are powered by people’s generosity of spirit. A decade of StreetStores is testament to humanity’s generosity as all clothing is donated by ordinary people who care.
After Cape Town, the next Street Store will be on 22 June at The Salvation Army in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.
Donations of good, clean pre-loved clothes are welcomed at M&C Saatchi Abel’s Cape Town and Johannesburg offices.
