Meet Mia le Roux: Representing the Western Cape at Miss SA

Published on

Mia le Roux is a 28-year-old from Oudtshoorn, who is chasing the Miss South Africa 2024 crown. She was announced among the Top 30 contestants for the beauty pageant.

Who is Mia Le Roux?

Le Roux was born in Sasolburg, in the Free State, later raised in the Western Cape. At an early age, she was diagnosed with “profound hearing loss” and has lived with a cochlea implant for most of her life.

As such, Le Roux says she is passionate about spreading awareness and educating others about the challenges faced by the deaf community. She advocates for accessibility and inclusivity, such as subtitles on TV shows and sign interpreters at live events.

“As a deaf woman with a cochlear implant, I represent a community that often goes unheard. I am here to prove that, despite being differently-abled, it has not affected me in terms of what I am capable of. I aspire to eventually help provide cochlear implants to those who cannot afford it and give them the same gift my community has given me.”

Le Roux has a notable history in beauty pageants, having won titles such as Miss Struisie, Miss Garden Route, and Ultimate Wildcat. She also made it to the Top 5 in Miss Deaf South Africa.

She now keeps a very busy schedule. While she works full time as a marketing manager, she also models and is pursuing further studies in Marketing at the University of South Africa.

But before delving into the world of modeling and marketing, Le Roux attended Oudtshoorn High School and went on to receive a nutrition certificate from the Sport Science Institute of South Africa and an exercise specialist diploma from ETA college.

Her favourite food is truffle and mushroom pasta, and she occasionally indulges in her guilty pleasure, sour jelly tots.

All roads lead to Miss SA

Le Roux says her decision to enter Miss SA 2024 stems from her admiration for the progress in inclusivity and the redefinition of beauty that the pageant represents.

“I believe I deserve to win the title as I embody resilience, strength and the ubuntu spirit within South Africa… My journey is a testament to the power of dreams and determination we all possess.”

Her local role models are former Miss SA winners, Shudufhadzo Musida and Zozibini Tunzi. She also draws inspiration from American surfer, Bethany Hamilton, who survived a shark attack in 2003.

Le Roux’ message to young girls and women in South Africa is to be unapologetic, courageous, and kind, always striving to uplift others.

Voting for the Top 25 contestants closes on 29 May at 18:00 and Le Roux has encouraged her supporters to vote for her.
