The City of Cape Town has joined in the search for missing hiker, Alistair Stanbull. He apparently left his home in for a hike along the Silvermine Nauture Reserve trails on April 29. A missing persons case was opened with the South African Police Service (SAPS), when he did no return.

Stanbull’s vehicle was found in the reserve’s parking area the following day, according to Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith.

Coordinated efforts between SAPS, Western Cape Search and Rescue – the City joined efforts on Friday. Smith says hundreds of personnel, including search teams, divers, K9 units, and drone teams, meticulously combed the area.

“By 14h00, teams had covered all hiking trails, the dam area, and all surrounding terrain. So far, no sign has been found and the search continues.”

Steenberg SAPS detectives have appealed to the public for information regarding Stanbull’s disappearance. Spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg says he was last seen wearing a grey long-sleeve t-shirt and khaki hiking pants. His vehicle, a Renault Kwid, was abandoned on Ou Kaapse Weg.

If anyone can assist, Twigg says to contact the leading investigator, Detective Sergeant Sharel Voorman, on 082 393 2558. Alternatively, individuals can contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
