The City of Cape Town’s Urban Waste Management Directorate says refuse collection services will continue as scheduled. Refuse collection will take place on Good Friday (29 March) and Easter Monday (1 April).
Residents are, however, advised to have their bins placed outside for collection by 06:00 on the scheduled day. It is expected that collection teams may arrive earlier than usual, as a result of the reduced traffic on these public holidays.
Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management, Grant Twigg, says there’s a chance that collections may be missed, due various factors.
“If your refuse is not collected on the scheduled day, please do not leave it outside overnight. Take it out again each day until it has been collected.”
It is worth noting that, waste drop-off facilities will be closed on Good Friday. It will continue operations according to public holiday hours on Easter Monday

Environmentally friendly waste disposal
Twigg has also encouraged residents to adopt environmentally-friendly practices during the holiday season. This includes recycling wherever possible.
“The City also reminds residents to bin-it smart, and play your part during the holiday period. You can take this to a drop-off site if you are not in an area that benefits from the City’s Think Twice recycling collection service.”
Furthermore, Twigg is promoting composting as a sustainable solution for managing organic waste.
“This helps reduce carbon emissions that are generated when food scraps break down in the landfill, and slows the rate of climate change.”
