Three alleged murderers have been arrested in Cape Town. They were detained in tracing operations in the Belhar policing precinct on Friday 22 March 2024. According to Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit conducted the stop-and-search operations.

Alleged murderers in Belhar

The 3 men were detained on charges of among others, murder, attempted murder and the possession of unlicensed and prohibited firearms.

He explains, “When they entered the identified dwelling in Extension 13, they found a suspect, wanted for murder. Upon searching him, the members found and seized a pistol with ammunition. They detained the adult male on charges of murder and the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.”

Elsies River Crime

There was another incident in Elsies River that members of the platoon followed up on. On Saturday 23 March 2024, at Kariena Court, officers searched a man in his thirties and found a CZ 75, 9mm pistol with ammunition. A 39-year-old man was detained on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

Uitsig Crime

More information was also given to officers, with regard to a wanted person in Uitsig. While searching a premises in Carnation Street, they confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition. A 26-year-old man was taken into custody.

He faces charges of attempted murder and the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

Court Appearances

All the suspects will appear in the Bellville and Goodwood Magistrates’ courts, once charged.

Be crime-conscious – be aware of crime opportunities at all times!

• Never walk around alone and don’t talk to strangers. Be on the lookout for strange cars or people.
• Walk in well-lit busy streets and in a group, if possible.

• Trust your instinct.
• Avoid going onto a congested street where you cannot even walk properly, that is where you will find criminals pickpocketing.
• Avoid displaying valuables where criminals can see them.
