A new Clean Up and Recycle Project

A new Clean Up and Recycle Project has been launched in Macassar on Global Recycling Day. The City of Cape Town organised a series of engaging activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness and encouraging recycling within communities on this important day.

 

City Celebrates Global Recycling Day

 

Also on the day, spreading joy and awareness was the City’s beloved anti-litter mascot, Bingo. The mascot visited various locations in the Mother City on Global Recycling Day, to also spread environmental consciousness.

 

Bingo leads the way

 

Bingo’s first visit on Global Recycling Day was to Sinako High School in Khayelitsha.

Bingo visited Dennegeur Primary School in Strandfontein.

 

There he engaged with learners in interactive activities, which centred around recycling.

From there, he travelled to Strandfontein, where he continued his mission with younger learners at Dennegeur Primary School.

 

 

Clean Up and Recycle Project launched

 

The City’s Urban Waste Management (UWM) Directorate, in conjunction with the Western Cape Department of Local Government and the Community Development Workers Programme (CDWP), joined hands with the community, where the Clean Up and Recycle Project was launched.

The City’s Urban Waste Management Directorate, in collaboration with the Western Cape Department of Local Government and the Community Development Workers Programme (CDWP), joined hands with the community, to launch the Clean Up and Recycle Project in Macassar.

 

 

This involved a clean-up of a dumping hotspot in the area.

 

 

Declare war against waste and illegal dumping

 

The Clean Up and Recycle project will help to raise awareness about recycling, as well as of City drop-off sites.

Community workshops is another way how people will be engaged.  It is hoped that 8 communities, in total, will take part in this project.
