An art enthusiasts dream weekend in Cape Town

Published on

Cape Town streets will be filled with artists and art enthusiasts alike this weekend, as the annual International Public Art Festival and Investec Art Fair host their respective art exhibitions.

International Public Art Festival (IPAF)

The International Public Art Festival or IPAF is hosted by the Baz-Art organisation every year. The event is a collection of publically displayed murals, all over the Mother City’s central business district. Local and international artists come to showcase their skill, creativity and wonder on one the largest stages in the world.

The theme for this year’s event is “CoAct/Collab”. Baz-Art, on its website, says this theme seeks to inspire “connection through communal action and creative alliance”.

The Company’s Garden will centre stage for the festival – which runs from 14 February to 18 February 2024.

Investec Art Fair

The Investec Art Fair, annually held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, is somewhat of a sought after art gathering event. Over 500 artists from all around the world, from over 100 galleries globally, are on show at the art fair.

The event is pulled together by Fiera Milano Exhibitions Africa – part of the Fiera Milano Group. On the Investec Art Fair Website, the group is described as world leaders in the art space and the creators of the Italian art fair, miart.

The Cape Town fair will showcase works under the theme unbound, from 16 February to 18 February.

“The 11th edition of the Investec Cape Town Art Fair takes as its starting point the boundless imagination and limitless potential of art to inspire and challenge”, as seen on the art fair’s website.
