Two men have been apprehended in connection with the murder of a City of Cape Town staffer, in Strand earlier this week.

On Monday just after 08:00, a 41-year-old woman was gunned down while in a parked vehicle, outside the Strand Municipal building in Main Road. The police’s Frederick Van Wyk says the woman was alone in a silver Toyota Fortuner, when the gunman approached her vehicle.

“According to reports, an unknown male approached her on foot, took out two firearms and shot several shots through the driver side window. [The] deceased was hit several times.”

The gunman, who was unknown at the time, fled the scene in a white Opel Astra.

Witnesses on the scene were able to furnish police with enough information to track the getaway vehicle down – which was found in Site C, Khayelitsha later that day. With that, a 26- and 46-year-old were arrested on a charge of murder.

The suspects are due for a court appearance in the Strand Magistrates Court.

Police investigations into the incident, however, have not concluded. The motive for her murder is yet to be determined.

Information provided by the authorities at present, note that the 41-year-old woman was working in the City of Cape Town’s Health Department. She was gunned down about three months after her husband was also shot and killed in Qumbu, in the Eastern Cape, in October last year.
