Cape Town again ranked among best Cities in the world

Published on

Cape Town has been ranked in the Top 10 for the best large city in the world by Condé Nast Traveller’s 2023 Reader’s Choice Awards, with over 520 000 readers participating in the survey.

Enver Duminy, CEO of Cape Town Tourism, has expressed gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing the city’s unique beauty and cultural appeal.

“This accolade is a testament to our city’s unique beauty, vibrant culture, and warm hospitality. It also reaffirms the hard work we’ve been doing at Cape Town Tourism to ensure our beloved city remains an inclusive must-visit destination on the global stage. This recognition is not just a win for Cape Town but for South Africa, boosting our profile on the world map and serving as a beacon for tourists contemplating their next travel destination.”

James Vos, the Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, said the City is grateful to the hundreds of thousands of Condé Nast Traveller for once again choosing Cape Town

“Most of all, we give our heartfelt thanks to every Capetonian who has extended a welcoming hand and smile to visitors from all over the world. Your hospitality is the beating heart of our beautiful city. My team, together with our partners, will continue to find ways to connect with tourists from near and far through clever campaigns and projects that will help to bring the world to our shores.”

Other cities nominated alongside Cape Town include Singapore, Tokyo, Seoul, and Sydney. Taking top spot this year is Victoria in Canada. The 2023 Reader’s Choice Awards are published on Condé Nast Traveller’s website and celebrated in the November 2023 issue.

The entry on Cape Town reads:

”On pristine beaches, penguins waddle about their business while leaping dolphins frame spectacular sunsets – and thrill-seekers head out on boats to come face-to-face with fearsome sharks. Away from the ocean, guests check into world-renowned hotels such as The Silo, the recognisable property where rooms feature contemporary African art and 360-degree city views. Table Mountain views are enjoyed over supper, especially during trips to Delaire Graff Estate for wine-swirling and impeccable tasting menus.”

Duminy concludes, “We’re grateful to everyone who made this achievement possible, from the communities that make our Mother City so special to the travellers who took the time to vote. We look forward to welcoming visitors from around the globe to experience Cape Town’s award-winning tourism experience.”
