The largest ring in the world has been unveiled at the Silo District in Cape Town.

The stainless steel ring – which weighs a whopping 1,4 ton – is valued at over R1 million. It is 3 meters in width and length.

WHY WAS THE RING CREATED?

The founder of Shimansky Jewellers, Yair Shimansky says the large Cape Town ring, which bears the shape of Table Mountain took 9 months to create.

“We wanted to create a shareable photo opportunity, for people to share Cape Town and Table Mountain with the rest of the world, and as a result create a conversation about Cape Town, and increase tourism – which is an important of the local economy,” says Shimansky.

Shimansky has been working in the diamond and jewellery sector since 1991.

“I’ve been living in Cape Town for 27 years and Shimansky is a Cape Town-born company. We are very passionate about the city and we will do whatever it takes to continue promoting it.”

THE LOCAL ECONOMY

At yesterday’s launch, he was joined by the City of Cape Town’s economic growth MMC James Vos. And Vos has termed this a remarkable event for the capital city. He says there is no better location, as the ring is situated in Africa’s top tourist destination, which is the V&A Waterfront.

“It really showcases the city’s beauty when it comes to our people and places. Also, when we have companies investing in Cape Town, it shows confidence and it shows we are open for business. Especially when it comes to a ring, it says “I do” to the people of Cape Town,” adds Vos.
