The National Association of School Governing Bodies is calling for the newly distributed PRIME hydration drink to be banned at schools, fearing behavioral changes in children.

The hydration drink has gained overnight popularity, which has seen consumers lining up to buy the beverage. When a major retailer started selling the drink at a fraction of the price last week, members of the public rushed to their nearest shopping centres to buy the products.

But, the NASGB’s Matakanye Matakanye says the potion will only cause youngsters to act out.

“We are fearful of one, that teachers will have problems of teaching children who have changes in behavior. Two, we don’t know what will be the future risk of that type of behavior to our children. Therefore we want this issue to be attended to quickly,” says Matakanye.

The association now wants government and student governing bodies to take a collective stance, by ridding schools from PRIME.

“School governing bodies must quickly formulate a policy that bans those drinks in schools. They should also call upon parents and the community not to allow our children to drink those types of drinks. This is because we don’t know what ingredients the drinks have,” adds Matakanye.

Prime Hydration does not have any caffeine, but PRIME Energy does. PRIME ENERGY is however not available yet in South Africa.
