The Tygerberg Children’s Choir has been named Best Children’s Choir at the Hull International Choir Competition 2023 in the United Kingdom.

The choir also came second in the category, Sacred Choral Music A’ Cappella and subsequently won two gold diplomas at the competition.

The latest accolades mean that the Tygerberg Children’s Choir has now qualified to perform at the next World Choir Games- the Championship Competition in New Zealand next year.

Twenty-seven choirs from ten countries took part in this year’s Hull Choir Competition in the UK, with the Tygerberg Children’s Choir being the only one from Africa.

The MEC of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais, has congratulated the Tygerberg Children’s Choir (TCC) on their success.

Marais said: “The Western Cape is so proud of this choir for their incredible achievement and for how they have represented the province on an international stage. They are guiding lights for the youth in our country, who have shown how far hard work, determination and passion for your art can take you. We will be supporting them all the way as they prepare to compete in the World Games in 2024. I thank them for bringing hope and joy to the youth of our province.”

The choir, together with conductor Karina Erasmus and accompanist Madri Gerber, returned to Cape Town on 2 May 2023, where they were received and congratulated by representatives of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport.
