The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness has urged residents to be mindful of longer waiting times at the Ravensmead Clinic.

This follows a brazen robbery that occurred at the facility over the past weekend.

It’s understood the suspects gained access via the roof, during the early hours of the morning. They fled with three computers, used to update folders and patient information. The roof and ceiling was also left damaged.

The department’s Shimoney Regter says services at the clinic have not been halted:

“We can assure our patients that service delivery will continue despite the incident. Patients may be issued with temporary folders, and we ask that you please bring your identity document/passport, hospital card, and your medication packet when visiting the clinic.” says Regter.

CLINIC STAFF HAVE ASKED FOR PATIENCE

Visitors and patients have, however, been warned that longer waiting periods can be expected:

“Please note that you may experience a longer waiting time when visiting the administration office at the CDC due to the stolen computers. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience and understanding.” adds Regter.

According to the department, management at the day centre is reviewing security measures to prevent further incidents of this nature.

The public is asked to help protect health facilities, by reporting any information they may have at their disposal.

“We urge our community to help us protect all health facilities by reporting any form of suspected vandalism or suspected acts of theft and criminality to the local police. The incident has been reported to the South African Police Service for investigation.”

Arrests have yet to be made.
