Flooding in the Western Cape

Published on

Heavy rain in parts of the Western Cape led to large-scale flooding yesterday. Over 250 incidents of storm damage and flooding were reported in Paarl. Other Cape Winelands towns also affected include Wellington, Villiersdorp, Grabouw and Riviersonderend. Last night, the rain also caused havoc on the Garden Route.

Meanwhile, Gift of the Givers will be giving assistance to residents of De Doorns, also heavily affected by the floods. The humanitarian agency says 50 informal structures were completely washed away and many others were damaged.

At the same time, Metrorail says its services in the province have been severely affected by the bad weather. The rail service says a number of train control panels were disconnected as a result of the heavy rain. Only some lines have been restored by this morning.
