Tributes are pouring in from around the world after the passing of Queen Elizabeth the second. She was 96 years old. Queen Elizabeth celebrated her Platinum Jubilee – 70 years on the throne – in June this year. British Prime Minister Liz Truss has paid tribute to the Queen’s life of service.

The First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon has also offered her condolences. And at the same time, Former Prime Minister Sir John Major also lauded her deep sense of duty.

A Cape Town resident, Alan Budge has told Smile FM, that he was in the same country as the Queen in the 1950’s when she was informed that she was becoming the queen. Queen Elizabeth was also known for her quick wit and a strong sense of humour – often making jokes about herself. During the celebrations of her Grand Jubilee, earlier this year, she filmed a humorous skit alongside Paddington Bear, wherein they both shared their love for marmalade sandwiches.
