The Western Cape recorded six cash-in-transit heists in the second quarter of the year.

The provincial SAPS earlier today announced the crime statistics for the 3-month period, April to June 2022.

Brigadier Monica Swart says these 6 CIT-robberies were reported in Gugulethu, De Doorns, Parow, Thembalethu, Franschhoek and Saldanha.

Swart says they also recorded an increase in truck hijackings in this reporting period.

The Police Service has also seen an increase in the number of car hijackings in the second quarter of 2022.

The province recorded 165 more car hijackings in April, May, and June of 2022, in comparison to the same 3-month period, last year.

Brigadier Swart says the majority of these hijackings were reported at the Nyanga, Phillipi-East, and Harare police stations, followed by Mfuleni and Delft.
