Cape Town electricity tariffs increased by 9.5% from midnight.

The City of Cape Town says the tariff increases were kept to a minimum to reduce the pressure on residents’ pockets.

Mayoral Committee Member for Finance Siseko Mbandezi says electricity prices increased by almost 10%.

Residents will also pay 6.5% more for water and sanitation services, while refuse-removal rates are up 5%.
