Transnet has urged residents not to buy fuel from unregistered fuel traders in order to curb the theft of fuel from its pipelines.
The operator says it has started seeing an increase in incidences of fuel theft, recording 70 such incidents in the past financial year.
Transnet Pipelines spokesperson Saret Knoetze says that last week alone, 3 incidences of theft were reported from the Durban to Heidelberg multiproduct pipeline.
Knoetze urges residents to report incidences of fuel theft to authorities.
