Eskom to defer the replacement of steam generators at Koeberg Unit two until August 2023

Eskom says it has decided to defer the replacement of three steam generators at Koeberg Unit two until August 2023.

The power-utility said preliminary evaluations have shown that the replacement will have to be postponed to prevent possible load shedding in the winter months.

Chief Operating Officer at Eskom, Jan Oberholzer says Koeberg Unit 2 was disconnected from the national grid in January 2022.

Oberholzer says the unit would still be returned online by June this year.

Eskom says the postponement of the installation of the steam generators will not affect the safety of the power station.
