The National Institute for Communicable Diseases says the new mutation of the Omicron Covid-19 variant, known as Stealth Omicron, is not yet of any concern.
The NICD’s professor Penny Moore says the BA.2 variant has already been observed in many patients across the globe.
The variant has, for example, become the dominant variant of Omicron in India.
Moore says the mutation of variants are expected.
She says the spread of the mutant variant is being closely monitored.
