Jamaica increase flame for Winter Olympics

Published on

Get ready to kiss your lucky eggs, because you’re about to feel the rhythm and the rhyme!

Jamaica’s four-man bobsled team will be heading to the Winter Olympics in Beijing. The first four-person crew to compete since 1998.

 Just good enough

The Caribbean nation nabbed the very last spot in a field of 28, based on results this season. This is an amazing achievement made more so by the fact that the country will increase participation at the Games fourfold.

Former U.S Olympic Bobsled pilot, Jazmine Fenlator-Victorian will race on her own for Monobob gold. An event making its debut at the Winter Games.

Benjamin Alexander, who is a retired DJ, will forge more history for Jamaica. The 38-year old will contend in Alpine Skiing. A sport he started practising in 2016 and still has no coach for.

The four-man bobsled and two-man Monobob crew are until now, unconfirmed.

 A sombre return

This will be the first Winter Olympics since the death of Sam Clayton Jr. in April 2020 after a bout with Covid-19.

The 58-year old was the man holding the ropes for the countries maiden voyage down an icy track and was a member of the 1988 bobsled team that inspired “Cool Runnings”.

The Beijing Olympics will get underway on Friday, Feb. 4.

Try to keep your eyes on these Olympians. The story could unfold into one worthy of a sequel.
