Provincial Head of Health, Dr Keith Cloete says there has, over the last few weeks, been a worrying decrease in vaccine uptake among residents.

He says vaccinations have dropped from an average of almost 200 000 injections to just more than 100 000, administered on a weekly basis. In excess of 3.7-million doses of covid-19 vaccines have, to date, been administered across the Western Cape.

At the same time: Cloete says substance abuse is driving up emergency medical care admissions in local hospitals. Depression and suicide also increased during the Covid-19 pandemic. Cloete says Tik was one of the main drivers of mental health psychoses that led to people ending up in emergency rooms.
