The Department of Basic Education’s director-general Mathanzima Mweli has requested an urgent meeting with Eskom CEO André de Ruyter, over concerns of a lack of power amid final National Senior Certificate exams.

Mweli yesterday also briefed Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Basic Education on rotational attendance this year due to Covid-19 and how it resulted in losses in teaching and learning times. The department briefed the committee on the readiness and progress of examinations, and the challenges the Class of 2021 have faced since last year.
