The environmental-rights group, The Green Connection has criticized NERSA’s decision to grant Karpowership SA three power-generation licences.

The group’s Strategic Lead, Liziwe McDaid says the operations of Karpowership SA along the South African coast will cause untold and lasting damage to the country’s oceans economy and ecology.

The National Energy Regulator of South Africa on Tuesday announced that it had approved three power-generation licences to the Turkish company to moor and generate electricity at the harbours of Saldanha Bay, Coega and Richards Bay.

McDaid says they will oppose NERSA’s decision.
