Tourism Minister Lindiwe Sisulu, speaking at the Africa Travel and Tourism Summit yesterday, said that she and Adam Bye, the British Deputy High Commissioner to South Africa, had met about the issue.
She says the British are under the impression that South Africa is a Covid-19 hotspot because the Beta variant was first detected here, but that doesn’t mean it is a South African variant.
Sisulu says it was agreed to bring together scientists and advisers from both countries to do more research on the Beta variant.
