Formula E confirmed for Cape Town for 2022!

Published on

Cape Town will become the first Southern African city to host the Formula E racing series, joining a host of iconic cities to present the ABB FIA Formula World Championship on 26 February 2022.

The announcement was made by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) in Geneva.

Chairman of e-Movement Iain Banner says they are delighted and honoured to be included on the calendar after two years of bidding.

Cape Town Mayor Dan Plato says the event will unlock major investment, job creation and tourism potential.

In the three years that Formula E has been hosted in Hong Kong, it has contributed approximately R1,4 billion to that economy.

The City of Cape Town has, in principle, decided to support the event with R2 million in cash, subject to the event returning to the City for future tournaments.

A further R2 million will be provided in the form of services, on the above premise.
