The wine industry body, Vinpro says the ban on liquor sales, which has been applied 3 times by the Government in the past few months has contributed to the excess of wine, which will be experienced in South Africa this year.
The body says it expects the country’s 2021 crop to be about 3.6%, or about 33-million liters, more than what was harvested last year.
Manager for wineries at Vinpro, Christo Conradie says estimates show the country has an excess of almost one year’s wine-stock in its cellars, and he says the ban on wine-exports also contributed to this excess.
Conradie says an oversupply in overseas markets also contributed to the wine-excesses.
