[Listen]: Prof. Barry Schoub says spread of B.1.617.2 Covid-19 variant closely monitored

Published on

Covid-19 vaccine MAC chair, prof. Barry Schoub says there’s no need to be alarmed over the spread of the new Covid-19 variant – recently discovered in India – here in SA.

Schoub spoke to ENCA this week and says the B.1.617.2-variant is being closely monitored by the SA Health Department.

He says although the variant has been noted to be just as transmissible as the B.1.351-variant – first detected in South Africa – there should be no cause for panic.
