CoCT: Report those who vandalize and damage road traffic-signals

Published on

The City’s Directorate of Transport has called on residents to report those who damage and vandalize traffic infrastructure and says the damage causes millions of Rand in losses on a yearly basis.

May-co member, Felicity Purchase says the City has had to, over the past 10 months alone, fork out close to R 8-million to repair electrical and traffic signal infrastructure at traffic intersections.

Purchase says a lot of the infrastructure is also deliberately damaged during service-protests.

Mayor Dan Plato this week confirmed that the City launched a R 1.4-million civil claim against Gatvol Capetonian and the Economic Freedom Fighters for damage caused during protests in 2019 and 2020.

A summons was issued to Gatvol Capetonian for over R 1.3-million in damages, related to a protest in the City in August 2019.

A Letter of Demand was also issued to the EFF, for damage to infrastructure in Brackenfell, during a protest in November 2020.
