The Western Cape Government says it will continue to support municipalities to produce their own electricity.
Finance MEC David Maynier says the multi-million rand Municipal Energy Resilience Project has been launched, to help protect local government’s from the devastating economic impact of loadshedding.
Maynier delivered the 2021 Western Cape budget yesterday, and said approximately R70 million has been allocated for the project in the medium term. He says loadshedding is further compromising economic recovery.
Municipalities participating in the project in this financial year are the Drakenstain, Mosselbay, Overstrand, Saldahna, Stellenbosch and Swartland municipalities.
