More than 29,000 people have died in just the last 28 days in the United Kingdom, due to the coronavirus.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged the private sector to assist African governments to purchase and distribute vaccines. Ramaphosa, in his capacity as AU-head during the African covid-19 Vaccine Webinar said because of the high cost of vaccines, many African countries will struggle to fully roll-out vaccination campaigns. He thanked mobile-giant, MTN, for donating R25-million, which will be used to vaccinate healthcare workers across the continent.

The SA Medical Research Council says South Africa has recorded an excess of more than 125 000 natural deaths during the Covid-19 pandemic. The cumulative number of excess deaths was measured from 3 May 2020 to 23 January 2021.
