The Department of Health says 409 of the close to 16,500 teachers, who have been infected with covid-19, have died. A further 55 non-teaching staff and 10 pupils have lost their lives to Covid-19. The Eastern Cape had the most teaching-staff infected and also had the highest number of fatalities among teachers, with 151, followed by the Western Cape, with 91.
