Published on

Cape Town was named ‘Africa’s Leading Festival and Events Destination’ at the 2020 World Travel Awards on Friday. This as Cape Town readies to host several international events.

Cape Town has previously been awarded the prestigious title in 2018 and 2019 and is thrilled to receive it for the third consecutive year. For this year’s voting process, Cape Town was up against Accra, Durban, Johannesburg, Kigali, Lagos, Marrakech, Nairobi and Rabat.

Table Mountain also won the award as Africa’s leading tourist attraction.

“At this point in time where tourism and travel has suffered greatly as a result of Covid-19, we are extremely pleased to bring this accolade home to South Africa and Cape Town in particular,” says Wahida Parker, Managing Director of Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC).

In addition, Cape Town International Airport also scooped the prize for Africa’s leading airport, a trifecta for the Mother City at the 2020 World Travel Awards!
