The 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens battle card is confirmed. Pure, unscripted drama will play out over three-days in Cape Town, and it will be knockout Rugby from match one. The “winner-takes-all” format means that if you lose, you’re out.
There has been a five-year wait since New Zealand dominated both the Men’s and Women’s categories at the last Sevens World Cup. Now, the other 38 teams are preparing to dethrone the Kiwis.
South Africa’s Sevens stars will have the honour of entertaining fans at the end of day-one. Providing the climax for what should be an incredibly exciting first day.
The Olympic silver medalists, the French women’s national rugby sevens team, will provide the first hurdle for the Springbok Women’s Sevens team. While the Blitzboks will have to wait until mid-day on the opening day to see how their campaign will start. It won’t be an opponent that necessarily has been a historical foe to the Men’s outfit – either Germany or Chile.
The two nations will meet in a pre-round of 16 rounds, which will kick of the tournament on Friday, 9 September 2022.
