Husband and wife rescued at Rooi Els

2 people, a husband and wife, have been rescued at Rooi Els after their boat experienced difficulty offshore. There was also a possibility that it could run aground on the rocky shoreline. At least 4 local boats, all Good Samaritans and the NSRI, went to the scene to assist.

According to the spokesperson of the National Sea Rescue Institute, Craig Lambinon, a husband and wife from Gordon’s Bay were rescued and taken to shore. The capsized boat could not be recovered.

He says the NSRI has issued an alert of a boat remaining adrift and semi-submerged after it capsized near Rooi Els on Saturday. A navigational warning was broadcast by Maritime Radio Services to all ships in the area.

The owner of the capsized boat, who was rescued along with his wife at the weekend, has indicated that he will make arrangements to recover the casualty boat.

At the same time, the NSRI has thanked local private boat owners who rushed to the couple of Gordon’s Bay. This is after word spread that they were experiencing difficulty on water in their boat.
