Police are investigating a 12-year-old boy following a fatal car accident in Brakpan over the weekend.

The young boy was allegedly driving the car that struck a 14-year-old pedestrian in the town on Saturday afternoon.

The incident reportedly happened less than a kilometre away from the driver’s house along Northdene Street. The driver had allegedly ignored a stop sign moments before the accident.

According to Sowetan Live, who spoke to people on the scene of the incident, efforts to resuscitate the victim after the crash were unsuccessful.

The teen, identified as Malcolm Booysen, died on the scene.

The alleged 12-year-old driver is said to have been trapped in the car after it collided with surrounding structures and then landed on its side.

A case of culpable homicide is being investigated, and the young suspect is expected in the Brakpan Magistrates Court soon.
